I’m binging these videos while dealing with a bit of a feaver, hearing “To press F2 press shift and F1” confused me for far, far longer than it should have
Nope…I get it!!! Hope you are feeling better.
I just received my 2024 Mega65 and it came with the V1 manual, not the V2 - is that expected please?
I believe so but you might post in the Discord just to make sure. I seem to remember them stating that they wanted everyone in this batch to have access to the original manual.
Follow any assembly video, or the included guide and you will forget to put the silicon power button. Like it happened here!!! :-D
Yep! I think in the full assembly video (not this short), I covered that, but don't quote me on that one.
if they make one that is pocket sized as just qwerty phone that'd be phenomenal.
They have a pocket gaming machine, so this wouldn't be a stretch for them.
paradroid is build in on the vic 20 and the maxi i think
I'll have to check. I didn't remember that. Thanks for the reminder.
The display window functionality was already there on the PET in Basic 4.0. Just with some control codes (there were no escape codes yet back then): chr$(15) and chr$(143)
I did not know that! Thanks for sharing and now I want to fire up my PET and give it a shot, or at least VICE…stand by…It worked! Very cool.
i use to have c128 it died few years ago
Sorry to read that. I still can't believe I gave mine away those many years ago. Are you planning to get another? You might check Bonus Life Computers.
c64 my fav system
You are not alone. Millions of users would agree!
my mega 65 just arrived , ouch £130 import taxes.
Yeow! That was a high import tax. I've not heard this cost from others across the pond.
18650's are a generic battery theyre sold everywhere... maybe not grocery stores or best buy but many brick and morter stores carry them... plus theyre MUCH BETTER then any A style battery good sir and user changeable... such a pro but you make it such a con, but i get it
Thanks, Ryan. I get it too. As I'm learning, there are very good reasons to use these batteries. Thanks for commenting!
Greetings neighbor from Bloomington! Where did you get the commodore neon light from ?
Hey, Neighbor! Very cool to know there's someone a couple of counties over into the same hobby. I found the neo light over at www.retroledsigns.com/Commodore-logo-LED-sign-Bright-multicolor-nearly-10-wide-662-LEDs-p483562276 Great to hear from you!
@@retroCombs I’m still without electricity but I’ll check this out for when it comes back online : )
Summary of Commodore version numbers: Almost as bad as Microsoft.
Almost, for sure! I was surprised as I researched just how many there were.
Can you please share the USB HUB model you used?
Absolutely: amzn.to/3VW2mTS (#ad). I broke it out for another use just this past weekend. Handy to have one of these on the work or computer bench.
@@retroCombs Thank you very very very much! Great job with the channel. Please keep going!
Thanks for the kind comment. Doing my best to keep good content coming. Appreciate having you along for the ride.
Great video, great presentation and very informative I just have a question for yourself or anyone else that has the tablet. I’m travelling on 14 hour international flights regularly. Would a USB stick plugged in with movies on it? Be able to be read by the tablet. ? Thinking I can load up 128 gig to watch on the plane if it works.
I have used a USB-C on my Pixel phone, but have not tried on the Pixel Tablet. I have to assume it will. I'd give it a shot, but my USB-C drive is at the "paying gig's" office.
@@retroCombs awesome, I would assume it would work… but then again this is Google we are talking about 😆 anything could happen
Absolutely! Ya love'em and hate'em at the same time on some days. 😂 I will say, I use this tablet every day. I never said that about my iPad because it often has a dead batter.
@@retroCombs here is Australia the Google Tablet is $599 (roughly $380USD) and the Samsung Tablet is also on sale for $778 (roughly $500 USD) so I’m trying to decide between the two
@bencostello2993 I've not used the Samsung but I'm not a fan of the software they put on their phones. Get the Pixel Tablet with the base. That's what gives you the best value because you get an audio hub with the deal. My two cents. I'm replying on the Pixel Tablet!
500+ was the best
Good choice!
Beautiful board 😂 Cant wait to get mine
These are getting harder to find.
@@retroCombs Do you have a review on this board ? or any project on it ? I'm waiting for Amazon shipping xD
@@thanatosor This is the most extensive video I have on this board. It's a bit dated and one of my older videos: ua-cam.com/video/gfsNLwCtIjo/v-deo.html
@@retroCombs Cool. What do ya think of this board & Nexys Video ?
@@thanatosorAre you asking if I would create a video? Sorry, I might have missed something.
It’s so cool seeing a young person go to town with the ancient stuff, we GenX saw as the leading edge of technology
I agree. Same reactions I had when I first tried my Commodore computer.
@@retroCombs I like your channel! I also do some retro computing, in my channel but it’s generally an engineering infotainment channel. But you are true hardcore retro, so a well deserved sub, are you familiar with Retro is the new Black? Wolfgang is also a great retro-tuber and a great individual as well. Sorry I missed it! I was at VCFSW and then the NVM, only getting home a short while ago. Hope to make the next one!
That's sounds much more exciting than my livestream! Hope VCFSW was outstanding!
@@retroCombs It was awesome, as it was last year. Got to talk to Adrian Black and June about AS/400's and all kinds of other fun stuff from my past. Great time all around.
@@3vi1J They are always great. One of these days I need to make it to the SW show! I'll be back at VCF-MW in September.
Oops, missed the stream due to fathers day dinner. Gonna catch up now.
Enjoy! Happy Father's Day. I'm headed out now for a little dinner.
@@retroCombs Got my own C64 8bitdo keyboard earlier in the week - the keyboard itself is excellent, but the joystick and big buttons? Yuck... squidgy novelty garbage. The keyboard jack plug hookups look interesting though - it would not be difficult at all to wire up some proper arcade controls that hook into that keyboard (as all its doing is emulating the inputs as key presses anyway), which may have some value.
Interesting idea to wire up some arcade controls! 🤔
What also puzzles me: no connector for a TV? Why is there no 15 KHz RGB out on this thing? If I want 8-bit like games over HDMI, I'll just boot Pico-8 on a modern OS.
I want to think composite out is coming on the expansion board. Could be wrong so don't quote me.
@@retroCombs Composite out is not acceptable. RGB or nothing. We want to lay behind the history of rotten output on the C64.
This would still be possible with a breakout board on the FPGA. Just needs to be enough demand and someone to champion the design. Thanks for suggesting!
Great explanation, tnx!
You are welcome.
you would change high capacity 18650 cells for small AA??? 🤦♂
Not saying that at all, just that these aren't as ubiquitous as other size batteries.
Still waiting on mine to come in the mail. My hope is I get the next batch, which should be in the middle of July.
Should be arriving soon!
Very, very thorough! Thank you!
You are welcome. Glad you found it helpful. There's been many changes and improvements since this video. Several of my negatives have been corrected.

Likely better. Didn't think about that option.
So basically, Cobi Based.
thank you this video convinced to make the purchase
Glad I could help and hope you are able to get one shipped. Seems there is a backlog on supply at the moment. Let me know when you receive one.
Fun fact: the opening flaps on some Cobi sets reveal the exact date and time the sets were manufactured
I missed that. Great "fun fact #2." Keep 'em coming!
Cobi once partnered with Wargaming to create sets based on World of Tanks, Fun fact: Lego hates Wargaming
Not a surprise. LEGO has shied away from military models but embraces Star Wars; which includes military weapons. It's an interesting balance for sure.
A600 is a nicer specced A500, the IDE and PCMCIA ports are really nice to have, never had an A600 until the Vampire 2 accelerator card came out. Currently my A1200 with PiStorm32+CM4 expansion is my main Amiga, accelerates the Amiga to insane speeds!
I really need to grab the PiStorm32 and using it with the +CM4 sounds perfect. I can only imagine what the speed increase will be when the CM5 is released.
@@retroCombs Seems the CM5 will use same PCI-e southbridge as the current Pi5, unfortunately this makes it not usable for PiStorm (too much latency), Michal talked about that on Amiga38, if it was usable the speed increase would be about 2,5 times faster than cm4/pi4, what a bummer! But cm4 @2.2Ghz is already VERY fast and will not disappoint you compared to pi3.
@@EdgeOfPanic Thanks for the additional info. I'll start looking into the PiStorm and see if they are available.
No, it's not. Even I was able to do it. Thanks for the great video!
Awesome and thanks for the kind comment. It's not really that hard as the title might suggest and glad to hear from others.
@2:42 The joystick connector is DE-9. DIN connectors are round (e.g. serial bus port on this machine).
Good catch. I'll add that to the Errata.
I cannot use the D-Pads after installing.
I have to admit, it has been years since I've check on this device so not sure I can offer any assistance, but my guess is the D-Pads need to be set back up in the Retro Arch. You might be able to get it all working if you plug in a keyboard.
@@retroCombs I found a solution. All I had to do was hold start and up on the D-Pad for a few seconds
@@theripper1777 That makes sense. The software just needed to recognize the hardware. Thanks for sharing. This might help others.
Please run Dwarf Fotress game on it)
I'll need to research this game. First I've heard of it.
just so everyone knows, I ordered one and they said allow 90 days for shipping... 5 months later I'm canceling my order because they said it would be another 5 months. Shipping is almost a year out on these, but they don't say anything to the customer. You just wait and wait and nothing ever happens.
Sorry to read that folks are having a difficult time grabbing one of these.
Weird, I stopped getting notified about your live streams a while ago so I keep missing them.
And you've got alerts for the channel on? Might try toggling them again. You could also try to unsubscribe and subscribe and reset your settings.
What is in that box? A VIC20 Ultimate retro clone?
Check out the video description. It list the innards! 😂
